FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LatinxEd Fellow turned Executive Director marks a full-circle moment for the organization

NORTH CAROLINA — LatinxEd is proud to announce the appointment of Andrea Freile as its next Executive Director. Following a national search, Andrea was selected from a pool of six exceptional finalists and officially stepped into the role on March 2.

Andrea is a cultural intelligence and strategic communications leader with a track record of helping organizations, educators, and public leaders build trust with diverse communities. Across North Carolina, she has partnered with nonprofits, businesses, and institutions to navigate complex challenges in ways that center lived experience and community voice. She brings direct education sector experience as a former Professor of Communications at Wayne Community College and Strategic Communications & Engagement Coordinator for Wayne County Public Schools.

Her leadership is widely recognized across the state. Andrea is a recipient of the Stanley Frank Award for Leadership (Leadership North Carolina, Class 32) and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Governor's Advisory Council on Latino Affairs.

Originally from Quito, Ecuador and rooted in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Andrea brings both international perspective and a grounded commitment to expanding opportunity across urban and rural communities.

What makes this appointment especially meaningful: Andrea is a LatinxEd '22 Fellow. Her selection reflects LatinxEd's founding belief that leadership should grow from within the community it serves.

"Andrea rose to the top not only for her experience and leadership, but for how deeply she understands this work and the communities we serve," said the LatinxEd Board of Directors. "She embodies the very investment in Latine leaders and learners our organization has worked toward over the last eight years."

LatinxEd also extends deep gratitude to co-founder Elaine Townsend Utin for the foundation she helped build over the organization's first eight years.
